The idea for the sculpture ‘Mother Nature’ [MOOIkut] came to me after watching a documentary about genital surgery - for purely aesthetic reasons- by teenagers in America. What reasons can get teenagers so frustrated to follow the new Hollywood fad, knowing the problems and physical risks incurred with such surgeries? Contradictory phenomenon fuelled by the pornography industry and by the erroneous teachings of some cultures and religions who take hostage a woman and her body.
After giving the matter further thought, it appears to me that in the art of sculpture, the vagina is seldom displayed in detail but merely indicated by the mount of Venus, whereas the male organ is generally shown in detail. The mystery around the female organ is the breeding ground for misunderstanding and uncertainty, which could lead to abuse.

My sculpture shows the beauty in the meaning of the tradition of Courbet's "L'Origine du Monde", an ode to nature, the natural and the source of our existence.

My dream, besides the numerous phallic symbols that the public space of most cities adorns, is to show also images and symbols of the female organ.

I sincerely invite each municipality who share this vision to contact me.

The statue has been exhibited in

Groningen, Nieuwegein,

Zwolle and

Schiedam, went by Italy to Paris to finaly found its home in Germany.

It is a statue waiting to be stroked.  It can raise eyebrows or its title can raise a smile when its motivation becomes clear and, although a difficult subject, it opens the door for discussion,...... just a bit.
